Mountain Biking Highlight
Whoever is traveling from the Karthause towards Schwedenschanze and Stadtwald (or vice versa) should make a short detour to this viewing platform. From here you have a great view over the Moselle and Güls over.
In earlier times, the Moselle had rapids at this bend, which were dangerous for navigation. Heavy loaded barges anchored and lightened their cargo. Passengers went ashore at unfavorable water levels and hiked up the anchor path to Koblenz. Shipmen had accordingly all the occasion in 1604 there to build a Bittkreuz (St. Nicholas).
The statue of St. Nicholas was rebuilt in the shrine in 2017 after being stolen several times.
