On Maundy Thursday 2024, in the best weather, there will be an opportunity to ride the first part of the Ferkeltaxen cycle path between Eilsleben and Hakenstedt.

Approx. 6 km on concrete slabs through the Börde. Three information boards, the first right at the beginning about Eilselben, the second about halfway about Seelsche Bruch. There is also a robust refuge here and currently a special stamping point for the Harz hiking pin. Shortly before Hakenstedt is the third information point with a rest stop.

I find the arrangement of the barriers diagonal to the path very positive, as they are much easier to pass through than the traditional arrangement perpendicular to the path.

The only small point of criticism is the entry/connection at Eilsleben train station. I missed a signpost here (or I overlooked it). The trail is marked with a bold red and white stone, but it wasn't clear to me. The entrance disappeared behind no-passing, private property and camera surveillance signs, so I cycled through the town (which wasn't a drama).

The Ferkeltaxen cycle path currently ends west of Hakenstedt. The next stage to Uhrsleben is under construction; construction for the second phase started at the beginning of March.

When it is finished, the path will run along the former railway line between Eilsleben and Haldensleben to Hundisburg, on which small rail buses used to run, hence the name Ferkeltaxenradweg.
