    St. Anne's Chapel

In 1835, an ambulance camp was established in the Beverlo camp. An ambulance camp is a wooden building where the necessary medical assistance is provided to soldiers. Because the number of soldiers and the associated number of health problems increased, the outpatient camp was quickly replaced by a stone building that later developed into a full-fledged military hospital. In 1923, a monastery building and a chapel were added to the military hospital. The nurses who worked in the military hospital moved into the monastery building. Saint Anne was the name usually chosen as patroness of the hospital chapels. She was presented as a caring mother. That is why this chapel was also named St. Anne's Chapel.

Saint Anne is the mother of the Blessed Mother Mary, who is not attested in the biblical texts, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal (i.e. not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example in the so-called “Protoevangelium of James”. There is no historically reliable information about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories, which are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patron of the Annakirche in Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia, DE), where a piece of her skull is kept as a relic.
In the church calendar, Saint Anna's memorial day - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.
