The Manhagener Moor was designated in 1938 as one of the first nature reserves in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. After years of intensive drainage, the average water level is now 1 meter below ground, so that the bog bodies continue to decompose. All that remains are several separate moor bodies covered with rocking grass. After the ownership structure was recently clarified, the Succow Foundation is now tackling the rewetting of the moor.
Currently only the pike pond and two small swinging grass areas are accessible. Most of the area is forested and inaccessible.
