Protection against flooding has been an important issue in the Uetzer districts along the Fuhse and Erse for generations. Centuries ago people created special flood protection for the place Uetze, through which the Fuhse flows. They built the Prangenhohl, a diversion for the water masses of the Fuhse. If necessary, a weir is built in front of the Eltz watermill so that Fuhsewasser is channeled through the Prangenhohl Canal into the Erse.
