Road Cycling Highlight (Segment)
The whole cycle path (from Kettwig to Velbert) is beautiful and well developed. But it gets very crowded with pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and children playing, especially on weekends.Uphill with the racing bike, especially to warm up (10km, 200m difference in altitude), goes very well. Downhill you are too fast with the racing bike (or you cycle deliberately slowly around other road users, but then cool down).Addition: The route (uphill) is ideal for FTP tests - up to maybe 4W / kg, then it will be too short.

From Velbert you are just before the end of the old railway line and can enjoy a beautiful view here. From Essen-Kettwig you have the steep increase (my Garmin reported up to 15% gradient on the first meters of the railway line behind it. Then it goes up to Velbert with about 1.8%.

The journey to Wülfrath is definitely worthwhile. The route ends at the time tunnel (geological history, Bochumer Bruch, nice cafe at the weekend) into the train path cycle path of the Angertalbahn.Head west to Angerbach towards Ratingen and Duisburg-Süd, east to the Sülfrath-Aprath S-Bahn station. From there continue via Düssel to Wuppertal-Vohwinkel with connection to the Solinger Korkenzieher-Trasse or the Nordbahntrasse and Kohlenbahntrasse to Hattingen.
