Hiking
The Hurlus were Protestant rebels who revolted on July 29, 1582 against religious persecution in the Spanish Netherlands, especially in the area around Mouscron and Lille.
They owe the name "hurlus" to their battle cry, which sounded like howling, or possibly it is derived from the East Flemish word for "mercenaries". According to popular legend, they were repulsed by archers led by Jeanne Maillotte, an innkeeper.
