In 1720 the timber drifts from the Wolfstein forests began. From 1729, under Prince Bishop Josef Dominikus, the expansion of the upper Ilz was tackled. In 1750 the prince-bishop's forests were almost completely opened up for the drift. The Sagwasser near Neuschönau formed the border between the Prince-Bishopric of Passau and Electoral Bavaria. A drift regulation regulated the details of the drift.
