It was inaugurated in 1914 and was part of the private gardens of the San Telmo Palace, later designed by the French landscaper Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier in 1914.

At the northeastern edge of the park is Plaza de España, a landmark example of Regionalism Architecture. Here, there is often a flamenco performance happening (tip if you watch, of course) and the vibe is utter perfection.
