"There used to be mining here," I heard from the (probably German) tourists next to me.

It was certainly construction on the mountain, but it had nothing to do with mining in the true sense of the word.
Even if I detest war, the relics, the buildings that remind you when you are standing in such beautiful nature. The contrast that reminds you of what people are capable of and what nature offers.... I love looking at it then. And as far as I could find out afterwards. Unfortunately, the sign was neither in English nor in German.

This is a Model 37 light fortress/bunker/defense. It was built in the 1930's by the then Czechoslovakian government due to political developments in Germany. I will discover similar systems further along the Elbe, clustered around Usti Ned Labem, for example.

These plants were probably called Ropik in the vernacular. According to the authority responsible for the construction, ROP (Directorate of Fortification Works).

The bottom line is that I can say that although the idea at the time was to be able to ward off Germans with a bad attitude, I am all the more pleased today that, as a peace-loving German who likes to discover new and different things, I was able to stand there and see the Giant Mountains and was allowed to experience.

Is on the way to the source of the Elbe and is, as far as I can judge, always to be looked at. Nothing great, but a contemporary witness made of reinforced concrete. If you come by, you can take a good look, but it wouldn't be worth it to me.

And unfortunately I can't change that here, probably because I was there by bike.
But for me it is more of a hiking highlight, or for mountain bikers, not a typical touring or everyday cyclist destination.
