In 1994, the culvert at Goldenbaumer Damm collapsed and blocked the outlet, causing the lake level to rise by about 1 m. In 1996, an adjustable dam was installed to avoid a permanent closure for the Schweingartensee and the subsequent waters. However, this remained largely closed, so that the lake level rose again by approx. 1.50 m.
