You can walk on the glacier on marked paths. Anyone who owns Grödeln will definitely find it easier. In August we had a relatively large amount of water and muddy snow, so expect wet feet 😉. Hey, but who can claim to have walked on a glacier?? It's quite an experience and most tourists all stay upstairs. Down here you are alone 😊.

Hiking

The Dachstein Glacier is absolutely worth seeing. You don't have to be a mountaineer, but you should wear sturdy, waterproof shoes and, in good weather, don't forget your sunscreen. If you're lucky (we were), you can catch the gondola with the balcony on the ascent and get a seat on it (reservation not possible). Then you stand outside on the gondola for the whole trip without glazing or weather protection and can really enjoy the wind and the magnificent view. A real highlight! Also worth seeing is the ice palace in the glacier.
