This bridge is on the Kętrzyn–Węgorzewo railway line, which was launched on 1 July 1907 on a section of 33.3 km. The construction of most of the accompanying railway infrastructure and buildings should be associated with this period. The railway line is entered in the register of historical monuments.

The importance of the line increased in the years 1911–1914, when construction of the Masurian Canal began. During this period, a railway bridge was built over the canal. During World War I, the Kętrzyn–Węgorzewo line was not destroyed, with the exception of the Węgorzewo station, where the bridge over Węgorapa was destroyed. The route was expanded in the years 1917–1918.
Another increase in the importance of the route was associated with the construction of Hitler's headquarters in Gierłoż in 1940–1941 and the so-called side quarters, i.e. the army quarters in Mamerki and the field quarters of the head of the Reich Chancellery near the town of Radzieje. There were also shelters of the command post near the town of Przystań along the tracks. The location of the route near the bunkers increases its tourist attractiveness.

After World War II, the railway tracks on the Węgorzewo - Kętrzyn route were dismantled on the orders of the Soviet army. In the following years, the line was rebuilt. In 1975-1976, the surface was replaced along the entire route, with concrete sleepers and rails being laid. On May 30, 1992, the last scheduled passenger train departed from Węgorzewo to Kętrzyn. In 2000, freight train traffic was also suspended on the route. Currently, occasional journeys take place here.
