Here it goes with a steep on / off and very beautiful route along the Alster into the Rodenbeker source valley.

Where once the roaring glacier water has milled the stream valley of the Alster into the ground, today finds a beautiful entertaining landscape with hills and valleys, water courses and ponds, forests, meadows and pastures.

And those wandering through the valleys of Alster and Rodenbek will discover rivulets of slope and seepage waters that flow from the water-bearing strata into the valley on the slopes. These sources are among the few natural water outlets in the state of Hamburg and have given the today's nature reserve its name: Rodenbeker Quellental.

The trace of spring waters is peculiar. Many are highly ferrous, and therefore the edges of the swelling wells are conspicuously lined with orange-yellow tiny iron flakes. In contrast to this play of colors are the flowers of many flowers, perennials and herbs, as the whole landscape is rich in a varied flora, through the middle of one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Hamburg leads, the Alsterwanderweg.
