The stone church of Upninkai, unlike the usual houses of prayer, is not in the very center of the Upninkai settlement, but a little further away from it, right next to the Šventoji river. 19th century Fires were especially terrifying for the Upnikans. Not only the church, but also all other residential and farm buildings of the village burned down. After the great fire, the only building that remained was a stone grain storehouse, which was donated by the landlord for the needs of the church. Residents no longer wanted to build in the fire area, moved away from the former center, and the church of classicist style, located in the old warehouse, remained in the valley of the Holy River.
