However, due to a conflict between the fairies, when the evil fairies became jealous of Geldutė, the villains decided and cast a spell on the sleeping maiden at home so that she would live in their abode - at the bottom of the lake. To prevent her from escaping, they chained Geldute along with her dowry chest to a long chain. Only at midnight was she allowed to get up and ring the bells.
This sound of kankles attracted groups of young people to march to free Gelduta, unfortunately, all of them ended up at the bottom of the lake. And now, at night, Geldutė rises to the surface of the lake, where she calls her kankles...
