The syrup factory Meekers-Poncelet is located on Sittardstraat. It was founded in 1883, and a shed was added in 1896. An office was also built in 1920. In the 1940s about 20 workers worked there, but in the fruit and beet season this number increased to 100. In 1977-1978 the company was closed. The current buildings date from 1937. The chimney is still there, but the machinery has disappeared. The brick facade has the inscription in yellow brick: Syrup Factory MPF Fabrique de Sirop/Jean Meekers.
After 2015, the old syrup factory was given a new destination. It became a residential and care campus. On the 16,600 m² site, recognized assisted-living apartments, a local service centre, grand café, tourist infrastructure and adapted housing units for the disabled have been created, among other things.
