Location: Rendsburg, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The two-hectare Paradeplatz was originally created as the center of the Rendsburg Fortress and was created when the "Neuwerk" district was founded. It is surrounded by historical buildings such as the Christkirche, the arsenal, the provision house and the commandant's office, as well as residential buildings from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Straight, wide streets radiate towards the square, they were named after the seating arrangement on the Danish royal table.A memorial stone set in the pavement commemorates the last execution with the sword on the parade ground. The Paradeplatz was the scene of important events in Schleswig-Holstein's regional history and testifies to Rendsburg's great importance as a former fortress and garrison town. Russian and Saxon troops marched here in the Northern War in 17713, and Marshal Bernadotte's French and Spanish soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1848 the Danish occupation of the fortress surrendered to the Provisional Government of Schleswig-Holstein, and in 1851 the parade ground witnessed the deployment of Prussian and Austrian troops. On the edge of Paradeplatz, the "Lornsendenkmal" erected in 1878 commemorates the freedom fighter Uwe Jens Lornsen (1793 - 1838), who lived in Rendsburg from 1831 to 1832 and was temporarily imprisoned in the main station on Paradeplatz. With his work "On the Constitution in Schleswig-Holstein" (1830), the lawyer who was in the service of the Danish government sided with the Schleswig-Holsteiners during the Schleswig-Holstein-Danish disputes, and thus the displeasure of the Danish government drawn.Today the Paradeplatz serves as a weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and is used for major events and folk festivals.kulturwegweiser.kreis-rd.de/sehenswuerdheiten/details/poi/ansicht/poi/paradeplatz
