The monument “The Three Monsignors of Lo-Reninge” is a tribute to three important figures in the history of Lo-Reninge: Mgr. A. Dondeyne, Mgr. G. Bouve and Mgr. U. Morlion.
Mgr. Albert Dondeyne was born on May 10, 1901 in Lo as the son of Julius Dondeyne and Leonia Rabaey. His father was a head teacher and his mother was the head teacher of the girls' school in Lo. After primary school in Lo, Albert Dondeyne followed classical humanities at St. Stanislas College in Poperinge. There he was laureate in the rhetoric year. He began his priestly studies and was ordained on August 21, 1926.
Mgr. Gustave Bouve was born on February 26, 1902 in Lo and was ordained a priest in Leuven on August 26, 1928. He was active as a young missionary in Ankoro and twelve years later took on the difficult task as superior of the mission in Kongolo. There he later became principal superior of the Spiritans and then bishop.
Mgr. U. Morlion was born on February 15, 1894 in Pollinkhove and died on January 31, 1985 in Kirungu. He lived to be ninety years old, was a priest for 62 years and a bishop for 45 years.
