    "... The Murg Valley Railway is a railway line through the northern Black Forest in Baden-WĂŒrttemberg. The 58-kilometer branch line connects the Murg Valley to the district towns of Rastatt and Freudenstadt and to the national railway network. It emerged from separate railway projects that were still in progress in the 19th century in the Grand Duchy of Baden and in the Kingdom of WĂŒrttemberg It was not until 1928, six decades after the start of construction, that the gap was closed and continuous operation started.

    The route in the lower Murg valley to Gernsbach was technically easy to build. It was built in just nine months in 1868/69 and connects to the Mannheim–Basel railway line in Rastatt. On the other hand, the partly gorge-like valley section between Gernsbach and Huzenbach, which required the construction of numerous tunnels and bridges, and the difference in altitude of 619 meters presented challenges. In the section from the upper Murg valley to Freudenstadt, built in 1894, the Royal WĂŒrttemberg State Railways initially operated the steepest section as a rack railway.
