The Schwarzach moated castle stands on the foundations of the moated castle built around 1320. The remains of this moated castle are still clearly visible.
The castle was built between 1780 and 1800 as a mansion and is now the seat of the State Forest Service.

      Schwarzach Forester's House: Masculinity
The former Schwarzach moated castle houses the state forestry administration office of the Neckar-Odenwald district. In addition to administrative activities, seminars and courses are also offered here. The attractive castle building is surrounded by a magnificent park with ancient trees.
About the moated castle: Schwarzach moated castle was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century by the Diocese of Worms, and the fief was transferred to the Electorate of the Palatinate by Konrad von Weinsberg in 1319. Until the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War in 1618, the Schwarzach fief passed to, among others, the Landschad von Steinach, the Lords of Handschuhsheim, and the Lords of Helmstatt. The castle fell into poor condition. In 1634, an official cellar was built there, but the complex was not maintained. In 1780 and 1800, the castle was converted into a forester's house, and the present manor house was built. The castle became part of the Baden estate and is still used as a state forestry house today.
