In 1862 the exploitation of the Quirosan coal mines began. In 1869 they would be the iron ones, and between 1870 and 1875 the two blast furnaces were lit in Torales (Quirós), in order to produce cast iron in refining ingots. Industrial activity would last until 1908, maintaining only the administrative center until 1965.
