12 kilometers of track and 1258 vertical meters make the climb to Angliru a legendary challenge in road cycling. In the first half you can bounce around at an incline of around 8 percent, while in the second half you expect an average of 13 percent - with two ramps over 20 percent. Here it is no shame, if you have to get off the saddle.

On the steepest sections it feels like the kind of all-out, knee-popping effort you might exert on a leg press machine in the gym. Pedal stroke after slow pedal stroke, I can feel the bike accelerate and then decelerate almost to a standstill in direct relation to the position of the cranks. Some of the hairpin apexes are obscenely steep, to the point where surely you would
flip over backwards if you chose the wrong line

Going up - pain, going down - fear. If it rains, it's the descent why you should consider climbing some other day.

Road to sky through hell. Harmless for a few first km(7%-8%aprox), don´t be fooled and save your legs. You´ll find a flat rest in the recreational area of Viapará (plus a water source for the wayback), reaching this place means you covered the half of the climb, also that the worst is about to start. The trickiest point is "cueña les cabres"(16%-23%) almost at the end, save as much as you can until you pass that sector, still a couple of hard corners after that, but the worst will be done... rise your head and spot the wonderful view here, last part it´s a flat that feels like a downhill...Enjoy

Take it easy at the beginning, the hard part is at the end

If you want to reach the top, start by saving your energy. If you have to put your foot down, do so; it's no disgrace.
With a 12-kilometer route and 1,258 meters of elevation gain, the first half has a gradient of around 8%, while the second half averages 13%, with ramps above 22%, it's considered one of the toughest mountain passes in Europe.
And be careful: the descent is very dangerous if it's wet, and if it's dry, Zapata's brakes could overheat the tires.
