From 1869 to 1871, Johann Bernhard Hensen from SΓΆgel built the three-aisled brick church of St. Peter and Paul as a replacement for a chapel. At the same time as the church was completed, Garrel was given parish status. A transept was added to the church in 1965/66, so that today it can accommodate 1,200 people.
