At the end of 2018, a pedestrian bridge over the Nevėžis, which has no analogues in Lithuania, was completed in Kėdainiai. The bridge built from wood and steel structures, which connected the ethnic lands of the Žemaitsians and the Highlanders of the old city, was designed by the architect prof. Jurgis Rimvydas Palys with his daughter Ieva Jurgita Palyte-Veilandiene.

When designing the bridge, traditional trusses with a lower horizontal connecting part were abandoned. The trusses rest on the bridge supports with their spikes. In this way, the middle part of the bridge rises above the water together with the bridge deck. The spacious, openwork bridge gave the city its uniqueness.
