The Rova of Antananarivo (Malagasy: rovan'Antananarivo), often simply called the Rovaa, is a fortified royal complex located in the center of the Upper Town of Antananarivo. Many parts of this complex are due to architects that the various monarchs brought from the United Kingdom and France in the 19th century.
This prestigious complex is the most famous rova, which designates a royal fortress. The shape of the Rova of Antananarivo is roughly pentagonal. Dominating the capital from the top of the Analamanga hill, it brings together within its enclosure palaces including the characteristic Queen's Palace (Manjakamiadana).
