Piazza Castello, Intra Verbania
The Piazza Castello and the medieval village called Sant'Ambrogio, which was fortified by the Novarese in 1270 to protect the area.
After a period of many buildings during the Baroque period, economic growth began in the 19th century. Intra became the center of industrial development in Verbania, which is why it is also called a small Italian Manchester.
Textile and machine industries, glassworks, paper mills, tanneries, hat factories, and many other businesses emerged here – thanks to its favorable location and two important sources: wood from the forests and water.
