Originally built in the early Christian style, probably as early as the 6th century, the parish church was rebuilt in the Romanesque style in the 9th and modified several times in the 13th. The church preserves numerous sculptures dating back to the thirteenth century, including some parts of the dismembered Romanesque ambo of the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Fornovo di Taro; In addition to the pair of stylophorous lions and the statues of St. Margaret, St. Peter and St. Paul, the two plates of the Transfiguration of St. Margaret and the Descent from the Cross, made by an artist of the Antelamic school, are of special value.

The Pieve di Santa Maria of Bardone is a historic church located in Terenzo, in the province of Parma. This church is special because of its long history and architectural style:
The church of Bardone is located along the ancient path that connected Parma with Tuscany in Roman times. In the Lombard period this road became the most important connection between the Po Valley and Rome. In the Middle Ages it was named Via Francigena and became one of the most important routes for pilgrims. Bardone is located in the middle of the Apennine Route and this church was an important reference point for travelers.
Recent archaeological excavations have shown that Bardone Church is very ancient. The 13th century church formed the basis for the adjustments in the 17th century and was smaller than the current church.
Architecture: The church has a Romanesque style with a beautiful bell tower with four arched windows on each side.

"The Feast of the Assumption of Mary [which the Catholic Church celebrates annually on August 15th in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary] is a warning sign: Detach yourselves somewhat from the earth! And Mother Church reminds us that on this feast we should ask God for the grace to strive for the things of heaven. But this day also answers a question that many people ask themselves today: Don't we also have a right to the things of this earth, a right to rest, to pleasure...? Yes, we do have that right, but within certain limits!"
(Albino Luciani / Pope John Paul I)
