This monument was erected in 1913 to commemorate the pilots Ernst Johannes Berger and Kurt Max Georg Junghanns.
On September 21, 1912, you were traveling in an Albatros Farman biplane on a flight from Chemnitz via Dresden to Döberitz near Berlin when, for unknown reasons, the plane crashed not far from the Schuhmann-Linde. Both died in the process.
The idea of creating this monument came from the officers of the 5th Royal Saxon Infantry Regiment "Kronprinz" No. 104 in Chemnitz, in which Ernst Johannes Berger had served.
