Millstätter See

With a volume of 1,176 million cubic meters, Lake Millstatt is the most water-rich lake in Carinthia. With an area of 13.3 km², it ranks second in the country. With a depth of 141 m, the lake is the deepest in Carinthia. This point is directly in front of the storage bay. The elevations of the Nockberge protectively frame the lake, from which the Millstätter Alpe in the north and the Mirnock in the east drop steeply to the lake basin. Between the lake and the southern Drautal lies a two kilometer wide plateau covered by forest and moors. The northern shore of the lake is a center of tourism with well-known tourist resorts such as Millstatt, Döbriach and Seeboden. The largely untouched southern shore, on the other hand, represents a relaxing alternative. Because of its abundance of water, the lake has a very stable temperature - the cooling in autumn is slow and often there is no ice cover at all.
