    Schönenbodensee, Wildhaus
The Schönenbodensee is located to the east of the village of Wildhaus in the municipality of Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann in a hollow in a protected fen area at the southern foot of the Gulmen. Like the Schwendisee on the opposite side of the village, the lake was formed around 14,000 years ago after a glacier melted. In the millennia that followed, the moors gradually formed as the lake shores silted up.
The lake is fed on the one hand by a small stream that flows into the lake on the east side, and on the other hand, meltwater and rainwater penetrates underground through the limestone layers of the Gulmen into the lake. This constantly refreshes the moor water.
The small Simmi stream leaves the Schönenbodensee in the west, turns east and flows into the Werdenberg inland canal east of Gams.
You can swim in the Schönenbodensee: Since 1930 there has been a supervised bathing establishment with a jetty, food and pedal boat rental. The production costs amounted to 50,000 francs.

      Badi Schönenbodensee, Wildhaus
Surrounded by mountains and meadows, reeds and forest, the natural bathing lake Schönenbodensee in Wildhaus is the perfect place for a pleasant cooling off on hot days for the whole family!
The Badi Schönenbodensee also has an extensive children's area with a non-swimmers' pool, a pirate ship and many other great play gadgets.
What could be nicer than enjoying an ice cream on hot summer days or fortifying yourself with a hearty meal from the grill after a swim in the lake? Nobody goes hungry with us.
