The Rainbow Trailhead is the first of two fee-free trailheads along the Turnagain Arm Trail; the other is Windy or Windy Corner to the southeast The Rainbow Trailhead is quite large, and I've never seen it completely full.

The trail to head northwest toward McHugh Creek is very obvious, but the trail to continue toward Windy Corner is less obvious. It actually runs directly across the front of the parking area, climbing an incline to the right as you stand with your back to the road. The first stretch of that is often grassy and overgrown by midsummer, which makes it harder to spot.
