Impressive monastery complex with plenty of foot people

In 1848, five "Sisters of Mercy" founded a community in Ehingen on the Danube, which was recognized by the Bishop of Rottenburg. In 1869, these sisters from Ehingen acquired the monastery buildings in Reute in Upper Swabia and revitalized the monastery. Since 1871, it has been the mother house of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Reute. In 1912, the new mother house was opened as an Art Nouveau building. The building, which characterizes the townscape, has been the headquarters of the order's leadership ever since. Especially in the 1820s, the pilgrimage to the Good Beth developed into an attractive church event, with five-figure participation numbers.

In 1999, the Franciscan Sisters of Reute founded the St. Elisabeth Foundation.

In 2016, a vision and development process began for the community of the Franciscan Sisters of Reute to lead the monastery and the monastery hill into the future. On September 21, 2022, the official start of construction of the "Klosterberg Project Reute" was celebrated. The Bishop of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Gebhard Fürst, blessed the foundation stone. The mother house of the Franciscan sisters will be completely renovated by 2027. Apartments will be set up in part of the building. This project is being funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg through the housing initiative as an innovative project. The project is intended to develop possibilities for a common good-oriented use of church properties as an example. The development of a residential quarter with affordable housing is planned on two of the monastery's properties. The changes will be accompanied by a public dialogue with citizens.
