Aguas Calientes, also known as Machupicchu Pueblo, is the town located just below the ruins of Machu Picchu. Although it's a tourist destination, it's a really cool place to explore. The Urubamba River runs through the center of the village and there are many hotels and restaurants as well as natural spas which gave the village its Spanish name.

The country began to develop after the opening of the railway in 1931, when foreign tourists began to visit the ruins of Machu Picchu. Locals have started opening businesses to serve tourists, mainly restaurants and small hotels.

The local market is a particularly authentic experience, and you can enjoy a pleasant and inexpensive meal on the second floor.

Aguas Calientes (as the name suggests) used to be known for its thermal baths, I remember when almost all of us would relax our muscles in the baths there after the Inca Trail. To get to the baths you have to walk up the hill in town, here you can rent towels or swimming trunks.

Thanks to Machu Picchu, the place is a real tourist place. Everyone wants to go up to the old ruined city.

Aguas Calientes can only be reached via the Cusco-Quillabamba narrow-gauge railway, there is no road connection. Many tourists use this train. The railway line continued to Quillabamba until the 1990s, when the line was buried by a landslide a little below Aguas Calientes during an earthquake and was abandoned beyond the damage. The rest come to the city on the Inca Trail.

Augusto Berns, a German researcher and explorer, was probably responsible for the cornerstone of the city. His goal was to discover the golden city and settled here by the river.
