The parish church of Albufeira, built at the end of the 18th century, is dedicated to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

The single-nave interior houses a valuable 18th-century image of the Virgin Mary and a painted altarpiece created in the 20th century by the local artist Samora Barros.

The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição church in Albufeira is the most important main church of the historic old town and a beautiful example of neoclassical architecture.
The building was erected between 1782 and 1800. It replaced the original main church in the town, which had been completely destroyed by the severe earthquake and tsunami of 1755. In 1800, the new church was officially consecrated.
The white, simple, and elegant facade shapes the cityscape of the upper or old town. A true landmark is the approximately 28-meter-high bell tower.
