Location: Lennestadt, Kreis Olpe, Arnsberg District, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
The object is the remains of an ore mining. Primarily ash and slag from smelting.
Around 1830-1850 at least one tunnel was built, which was driven from the foot of the mountain to the now so-called "pile of sand". Pit horses were used for transport in this tunnel. Later, a cable car was built.
Unfortunately, not much is left of the cable car and the tunnels.
Our investigations are unfortunately in the sand "... (nice wordplay;)
At the side of the pile of sand you will find a small cave, which could have been the exit of the tunnel.
