Always a beautiful place to take a break. It's amazing that the stone was transported here by a glacier.

The "Great Stone of Tonnenheide" is 10 meters long, 7 meters wide, and 3 meters high. It weighs approximately 350 tons. It is the largest known erratic boulder in Northern Germany.
The stone material of this boulder is approximately one billion years old. It is composed of biotite granite. The block most likely originates from the southern Swedish province of Blekinge, an area approximately 750 km from the current site. Around the turn of the century, geologist Professor Dr. Wegener examined the boulder and determined its dimensions to be 7 meters long and 5 meters wide.

At least 20 m³ of boulder material was blasted from the boulder in Tonnenheide in earlier times. Drill holes for the explosive charges are still clearly visible on the south side.

Large boulder that came to Tonneheide from Scandinavia with the Ice Age. Idyllic place with half-timbered bakery and toilet. There are also occasional events.
