Under the Prussian government, Cologne was surrounded by a second ring of fortresses made up of various forts in the 19th century. In fact, the forts were never used in the war and had to be eliminated after the Treaty of Versailles. It is thanks to the former mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer, that the forts have largely been preserved and have been transformed into the Cologne green belt. Fort VI is used by the Sports Department of the City of Cologne.

Curious: although in the middle of the city of Cologne, the importance of the forts is not quite aware of the mostly fellow citizens. Watch and Wikipedia is worth it!
