Hutebuche Natural Monument

The beech, which is around 300 years old, has come close to the end of its life cycle. The upper part of the main stem is already dead. Only parts of the once mighty treetop still have leaves. This ancient natural monument is reminiscent of the Rhöner Hutungen and the hut trees, which were once the basis for sheep and goat husbandry. An information board next to the rest benches provides further information.

Here there are valuable wet meadows and spring areas, fens and small areas of bristle grass. The young cattle graze there from spring to late autumn and feed on the succulent mountain herbs. The beech trees provide them with shade and protection from the rain. (Info in the Ehrenberger flyer)
