A spectacular, proud, and commanding work by artist Marco Martalar, created on site with branches, trunks, and roots from trees felled by Storm Vaia in the fall of 2018, which was particularly devastating in the Marcesina Plain. This continues the sculptor's series of "Vaia Works," following the Lavarone Dragon, the Lagorai Wolf, the Winged Lion, and many other lesser-known works listed on his website.

Commissioned by the municipality of Grigno—we are in Trentino—the eagle is a symbol of the Province of Trento; furthermore, this was the border between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, of which the bird of prey was an effigy. Last but not least, the eagle is a symbol of Nature's strength and freedom: imposing and majestic, it spreads its wings toward the horizon and directs its gaze toward the areas affected by Storm Vaia; the tree trunk wrapped between its claws represents a reclaiming of the habitat.

A 100-meter larch skeleton covered with 1,500 pieces of roots and 1,800 vines, 7 meters high by 5 meters long, and weighing 1,600 kg, it is the largest wooden eagle in Europe. It will be inaugurated in summer 2023.

A sculpture whose charm also lies in its transience: made of untreated wood, destined to slowly disappear over time, under the force of nature itself, until it returns to the earth.
