Newcastle Castle is a medieval fortress that gave the city its name. Whilst a fortification has existed on the site since Roman Times, in 1080 the son of William the Conqueror, Robert Curthose, built the first castle on the site out of timber. This was replaced about a century later with a stone castle on the orders of King Henry II. These days, you will find the castle an interesting place to visit and the views from the top over the city are sublime.

Entry costs £8.50 for adults, £5 for children (under 5s are free), £24 for families, and £7.50 for seniors, students, concessions, and people with disability (plus one carer). For more information, visit: newcastlecastle.co.uk.

Beautiful castle with many stairs. Also interesting for children, there are armor to try on. Attention: Tickets are not available directly at the Castle, but a few meters further at the Black Gate.
