The high point on this section of the Colorado Trail is around 11,400 feet and passes over the southern tip of the ridge leading to Galena Mountain (12,281 feet) and Homestake Peak (13,216 feet). Off-trail adventurers can tackle these two peaks by following the ridge north and keeping on the ridge proper (or a tad to the west/climbers left). The ridge is straightforward class 1 and 2 travel through rocky and grassy alpine meadows.
