Information panel about Roman settlements in the Rutesheim area: In 90 AD, the Romans, under Emperor Domitian, built an almost straight stone road between Strasbourg and Augsburg. Since Rutesheim was located precisely midway between the important towns of Pforzheim (Latin: Portus) and the Cannstatt fort, several Roman estates (so-called villa rusticae) were established here. During this period of peace, our region flourished thanks to the influx of highly developed Mediterranean culture, with its stone buildings, tiled roofs, colonnades, cellars, underfloor and wall heating in the bathhouses, fountains, stone statues of gods, and coinage.
