The Wewerka Pavilion is a permanent exhibition space of the Münster Art Academy.

It is under the joint care of the city of Münster and the university. The pavilion is considered an example of the cultural diversity and openness of the city and of the cooperation between the city and the art academy.

The pavilion was originally designed by architect and artist Stefan Wewerka for documenta 8 in 1987 and executed by TECTA. On the initiative of Ulrich Krüger, the pavilion was placed in Münster on loan from the owner, Axel Bruchhäuser.

Since 1989 he has stood on a meadow by Lake Aasee.

The glass cube, often referred to as a display case or showcase, acts as an exhibition space that houses works of art and literally displays them from all sides. It is of great importance for artists as well as for the citizens of the city.

With its double character between a closed showcase and a sculptural autonomous object, the pavilion represents an experimental field and a challenge for the students that is not easy to master.

Placed in the public, recreationally used park landscape at Lake Aasee, it offers them the opportunity to address a larger audience directly with their artistic work. The Wewerka Pavilion thus forms an open, valuable forum in which art and those interested in art can meet in an informal manner.
