In the origin of the Feisnitz reservoir was used as a cooling water storage for the power plant Arzberg. He was dammed up by the Bavarian electricity supply company for it. After the decommissioning of the power plant in 2003 and demolition in 2006, the lake was handed over to the city of Arzberg. Today Feisnitzspeicher serves as a popular destination. Swimming, hiking, cycling and many other activities are possible here.

The local recreation area Feisnitz-Reservoir is also used for swimming and relaxing. Hiking trails lead around the reservoir. The pre-closure in particular is in a scenic location. There is a restaurant and a campsite. The parking lot at the reservoir is the starting point for hikes to the Waldenfelswarte on the Kohlberg, to the basalt area of the Ruheberg and in the Röslautal to the Gsteinigt between Elisenfels and Arzberg.
