Hiking

The port is located on the north bank of the Rhine-Herne Canal in the Essen district of Karnap. It served the Mathias Stinnes mine of the same name as its own industrial port. When the mine closed, it lost its function and was shut down in 1973. Only the quay wall remained. Today, the former port area is a local recreation area and a popular fishing area in summer.
