1975 April 4 the accident of the "Vilnius-Kaunas" train that occurred at the Žaslii railway station (the biggest railway accident in Lithuania to date). The accident happened at 17:35 local time. Driving at 70 km/h. at high speed (in Žasliai, it was not supposed to stop), the train hit the fuel tank of a freight train, which was too protruding from the side road. There was a fire. People wearing synthetic clothes were particularly affected. About 80 burned people were brought to the Kaišiadori Central Hospital in the first hour after the fire. The third carriage was completely burnt, killing all its passengers. 20 people are believed to have died in the crash. 😥
