The Evangelical-Lutheran church of St. John the Baptist, which is under a preservation order, stands in the church cemetery of the community of Steinau in the Cuxhaven district of Lower Saxony.

The parish belongs to the church district of Cuxhaven-Hadeln in the district of Stade, part of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hanover.

The rectangular hall church with five axes covered with a hipped roof was built in 1835.

The walls are made of bricks, only the long walls have areas made of timber framework, which are also infilled with bricks.

In front of the west wall is a 17th-century free-standing bell tower covered with a pointed tent roof.

A church bell that was cast around 1200 hangs in it.

The interior is divided into three areas by the side galleries, the middle one has a wooden barrel vault, the side ones are covered with flat ceilings.

The organ with 19 registers, distributed over two manuals and a pedal, was built in 1839 by Johann Georg Wilhelm Wilhelmy and restored in 1991 by the Hillebrand brothers.
