Welcome to this approximately 32 km long path that leads you through the forested, Brandenburg part of the Sauerland and through the characteristic old wire trading towns of Iserlohn, Altena and Lüdenscheid.Magnificent views of a beautiful landscape, buildings steeped in history and excursion destinations directly along the route and hiking along a historical route: this is what makes the "wirehandelsweg" so attractive. The route takes hikers back to the industrial history of the cities of Iserlohn, Altena and Lüdenscheid, which were trading partners of the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages. On the "wire trade route" the Reidemeister brought their wire reels to Iserlohn by horse cart for further processing. Occasionally, the hesitants had to walk this route laboriously. Then needles, eyelets, fish hooks and chains were made. The "wire trade route" thus provided a connection to the major trading centers of Dortmund, Soest and Unna.
If you are on the way today, you will learn something about the hardships under which the 30 kg wire rings had to be transported through the valleys and over the heights past the "iron prayer" and the "dead man".Here the hiker has to switch off and experience paths and forests with all their senses. In total, there are a few hundred meters to be overcome. Various restaurants, restaurants and cafés on the right and left of the "Drahthandelsweg" invite hikers to take a break.
