Noo's St. Lawrence Church is one of the oldest country churches in South Estonia, which has preserved its architectural forms from the 13th century to the present day. The construction period of the sanctuary can be seen from the extraordinary vaults in the chancel, which are unique in Estonia and quite unusual even in the whole of Europe. The choir vault is an imitation of a Byzantine dome, interrupted by decorative ribs.
The construction date of the vault can be determined fairly precisely: the first construction phase must have been in the middle of the 13th century. The nave was vaulted a decade later, in the 1270s.
